Description

⚠   Important Notice:Why You CANNOT Use an "All-in-One" HPD Sign ⚠

To all building owners, landlords, and property managers:
It may seem convenient to combine all your HPD-required signs into one — but this is NOT permitted under NYC Housing Maintenance Code. Here’s why:

  1. NYC Code Only Allows a Specific Combination (Code 12.12.01)
Per HPD Code §12.12.01, the ONLY combination for Smoke, Carbon Monoxide, and Gas Leak Notices — no other signs may be grouped together.
  2. HPD Has Strict Font and Layout Rules
Many people overlook this! HPD requires specific fonts, formats, spacing, and layouts for each type of sign — combining signs often violates these formatting rules.
  3. Required Letter Height for Readability
HPD mandates minimum letter height to ensure tenants can easily read the notices. When signs are squeezed into one, critical text becomes too small — resulting in violations and not in compliance.
  4. Updates Happen — Avoid Paying Twice
HPD frequently updates information on official notices. For example, the Smoke & CO Notice was last updated in 2017. If you combine signs, you’ll have to replace everything every time just one notice changes.
