DRAIN SIGNS
What Are Drain Signs?
In fire sprinkler and standpipe systems, drain signs are posted to identify the locations of important drainage points. These drains allow water to be released from the system for:
-
System Testing (flow tests, pressure tests, and annual inspections required by NFPA & local codes)
-
Maintenance & Repairs (emptying sections of the piping when replacing valves, heads, or fittings)
-
System Draining after activation (removing water after sprinklers discharge or after hydrostatic testing)
There are different types of drains in fire protection systems, such as main drain, auxiliary drain, and test drain, and each must be properly labeled.
