Why do we need a sign FDC in the building ?

The FDC ( Fire department connection sign) is a sign that help the fire department to quickly find the FDC to connect to the fire pump truck  and this connection allows the fire department to supplement the fire protection system in the event of a fire.

What is FDC ?

The Fire Department Connection (FDC), also known as the Siamese Connection, is an important component found on most sprinkler and standpipe systems. When a sprinkler system activates, the fire department connects hose lines from a pumper truck to the fire department connection. This connection allows the fire department to supplement the fire protection system in the event of a fire.

What is Standpipe and Dry Standpipe?

The standpipe extends into the building to supply fire fighting water to the interior of the structure via hose outlets, often located between each pair of floors in stairwells in high rise buildings. Dry standpipes are not filled with water until needed in fire fighting

Air pressurized standpipe signs are designed to inform the fire department of the type of standpipe system in the building at hand.

Frequently asked questions about pressurized standpipe systems, signs related and pertinent signage:

Which type of standpipe system contains pressurized air in the pipes?

Automatic dry standpipe systems (as well as automatic dry sprinkler systems) have differential dry pipe valves that separate the pressurized air contained in most of the piping from the pressurized water supply.

What is the purpose of a standpipe?

Standpipe systems present a series of pipes, which connect water supply to hose connections; In a sense like an extension of the fire hydrant system. They are designed to provide a pre-piped water system for the building occupants or the fire department.

What is a dry standpipe?

A dry standpipe is a network of in-place piping works allowing connection of a water supply (usually a fire department mobile apparatus known as a pumper) to a dedicated inlet at street level; With hose outlet valves on each floor.

Where does the air release valve go (air valve location and more) ?

Air valves for exhausting air should be located at points on the pipeline to which air tends to be drawn, and/or where air tends to collect. Air valves for air intake should be located at points on the pipeline that are most susceptible to sub-atmospheric pressures

What causes air in sprinkler lines?

In most irrigation systems, the pipelines are full of air when the system is not in use. When your irrigation system shuts down most of the water drains out through the emitters or any auto drain valves you might have installed and is replaced by air. Pumps can introduce air into the system too
